How many hours do other MMA fighters train?

How many hours do other MMA fighters train, either per day or weekly, and how much do they eat in order to sustain this? Just trying to compare my training schedule to others'.

Thanks a lot in advanced.

While some MMA fighters that fight FULL time might train 8 hours per day, most don't. Typically a cardio routine in the morning for about 1 or 2. In the afternoon/evening some strength training or MMA training. These usually alternate days.

I train cardio 6 days a week. I do strength training 3 days a week HARD and 3 days a week moderate (usually the days I train MMA). I train BJJ Tue, Thur, Fri mornings, and Sun. I train Muay Thai Mon, Wed, and some Fri nights.

My diet isn't over the top……I eat a lot of sushi (almost every day). I fight 155lbs and I maintain about 172-174 daily on a 4000ish diet. I drink tons of water.

Hope that helps

what is the difference between american kickboxing and muay thai?

technique wise not compatition rule wise i now more about muay thai than american kickboxing and would like to learn more about it so whats the deal do they use different kicks punching what is american kickboxing based on etc thanks

1st off american kickboxing was derived from full contact karate so a lot of techniques are similar to karate

kicking differences
-thai boxers typically kick with there shin, while kickboxer use their feet.
-thai boxers use their hips and the torque of their body to generate power for their kicks, kickboxers tend to chamber their kicks and "snap" their kicks. usually less powerfull but faster than thai.
-thai boxers mainly use the push kick and the roundhouse, while full contact tend to use more kicks like spin kicks, front kick, sidekick, back kick ect…

*note none of these are exclusive to each style but just a trend

rules
-thai boxing rules can use kness and elbows, full contact kickboxing cannot
-there is a kicking minimum for full contact kickboxing if you do not reach the requirement at the end of the round a point is deducted.
-full contact you can only kick above the waist, thai boxing kicks can land everywhere(except groin of course)
-thai boxing allows clinching 'neck wrestling' as long a at lease one person is active in the clinch
-thai boxing you can catch the person's leg while they are kicking, but you can only take one step while holding it, then you must attack or release it

range
-american kickboxers tend to fight at a longer range than thai boxers
-thai boxers can fight in close range very well due to their knees elbows and clinching skills

attire
-full contact kickboxers wear pants
-muay thai wear shorts.

*now if a kickboxer fights with international rules they lose the kicking requirement and can kick to the legs
and depending on where you train they might teach you a lil differently for example my friend does american kickboxing but he was still taught how to use his knees and elbows

Jiu Jitsu in Gainesville, GA or at least a hour from it?

I want to know if there is jiu jitsu in Gainseville. That teach the original one, the one from Japan. I do not Brazilian style.

Get in touch with me, by email, and I may be able to help you.

Why does Mixed Martial Arts seem less acceptable than boxing, when in fact it is actually safer?

Mixed Martial Arts, or MMA, is growing very fast in popularity in the US. I personally think it'll take over boxing.

Simply because it's newer and it includes moves us Westerners aren't used to in fights. Until 10 years ago, you never saw a street fight that included kicks and throws as well as punches.

I do simple TKD and people think that my sport/art is more violent than boxing (Which is a major fallacy because we're padded much more than any boxer when in competition)

Wait a while when boxing becomes a dying sport. MMA will become more recognized and be seen as a bit more safe.

Where can I watch episodes of Tapout online?

Your probably have to download them through a torrent site.

Do you like UFC/Pride fighting if so who's your favorite fighter?

Personally I like Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell and Randy "The Natural Couture from UFC. I haven't watched much Pride fighting to know who's who.

man, you had to answer your own question with my favorite 2. i'll go old school then, with the Gracies -Royce in particular, Mark 'the hammer' Coleman, and that loveable loser, Tank Abbott.
